Some of the most beautiful, and unforgiving water, in the world!
People always ask "we're can you go diving in Iowa?", "Oh, just about 1000 miles south of Cedar Rapids," we tell them with a grin! Actually Iowa is very close to some of the best diving you can experience. The Great Lakes! Five immense bodies of fresh water with a combined area of 94,560 square miles and depths reaching over to 1300 feet! With such a great span of water, comes an incredible amount of commercial shipping, that over the years have resulted in over 4000 shipwrecks. Many of them recorded, explored and diveable by recreational divers. But there is a small price to pay....?
The water is cold. Water temps can range as cold as 38 degrees, even in the deep summer. We have a joke about Lake Superior. When someone asks about the thermocline, we tell them Lake Superior has only two temperatures year round. Frozen water...and Ice!
If you want to have an incredible time and a comfortable experience in cold water, diving with a dry suit is not just a choice. It's a necessity. Diving is not much fun when you are cold. And there is so much to experience in the sport it is hard to just limit yourself to warm water diving. When a wetsuit diver asks a dry suit diver about dry suits and how they like them. The response is always that once you dive dry. You've become hooked. You always want to dive dry!
We're proud to offer Dry Suits from the world leader Diving Unlimited International (DUI) we also offer a selection from BARE.
